Paintings:
The paintings shown here represent most of my work since late 2016 when I first started painting. Paintings in oil are specified; the remaining works are acrylics on canvas. They are shown in descending order, from most recent to earliest work. As you can see, what I find engaging is the challenge of painting people and attempting to capture some small kernel of the essence that makes them who they are. I also have recently added landscapes/architectural paintings, animals, still lifes, and narratives to my portfolio. Some of the paintings were commissioned, and several have been selected for inclusion in group shows at local galleries.
Artist:
I grew up in a small town in Wisconsin, moved to California where I earned my Masters in psychology at UC Berkeley, and then moved to Massachusetts. In my early years in the Boston area, I drew portraits in charcoal pencil by commission. At the time, I had a solo show of my work at the Watertown Public Library, and was also a featured artist on Showcase Watertown, a local cable television show. Then my life changed course again, and I focused on a career in workforce development and also worked as a consultant designing Crystal Reports. In 2016, I retired as Executive Director of a private nonprofit in Cambridge, moved to Western MA, started painting and also returned to writing. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to spend my time doing what I love to do. I hope you enjoy some of these efforts.
